Top Atlanta and Fulton County officials have agreed to meet next Thursday with Senior U.S. District Judge Marvin Shoob over the county's efforts to find ways to relieve overcrowding at its jail.

Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed and Chief Operating Officer Peter Aman will meet with Fulton Commission Chairman John Eaves and County Manager Zachary Williams during a negotiating session in Shoob's chambers at the federal courthouse. Threatened with contempt, the Fulton commission on Wednesday rejected an offer to buy the city's jail for $85 million.
