A Fulton County Magistrate Judge found probable cause for prosecutors to proceed with the case against the man accused of shooting an Atlanta police officer in the face.

Frank Nance, 20, is accused of the Jan. 11 shooting of Officer Reginald Robinson.

Nance is charged with aggravated assault on a police officer and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, according to a press release Thursday from the District Attorney’s office.

Robinson was dispatched to investigate possible drug activity in southwest Atlanta, police said. The man Robinson was questioning fled. During a chase, shots were fired, and Robinson was struck in the face near the intersection of Ralph David Abernathy Boulevard and Lee Street. Robinson was treated and released from the hospital.

Thursday’s ruling by Magistrate Judge Karen Woodson means state attorneys can now take the case to a grand jury for indictment.
