Johns Creek City Council members Monday night approved a series of interim safety measures for the troubled Barnwell Road corridor, designed to improve sight distances and reduce speeds until permanent measures are put in place.
The council directed city staff to trim vegetation obstructing motorists views in the right of way as they turn onto Barnwell Road from neighborhoods along it. The city will also install sensors on Barnwell at Niblick Drive to both alert motorists of oncoming traffic and let drivers know how fast they’re going. The 2.5-mile road is plagued by several issues including poor sight distances, narrow lanes and shoulders and a lack of sidewalks.
The city has scheduled two meetings to get public input on permanent improvements. They’re set for 7 to 9:30 p.m. Tuesday at Ms. Pisgah Christian School and May 11 at Barnwell Elementary.
