A north Fulton County subdivision was partially evacuated for several hours early Monday after lightning from the strong storms that raked metro Atlanta struck a gas line.

Johns Creek fire officials said that the lightning struck near the ground at a home on Hillgate Crossing, in a neighborhood off Abbotts Bridge Road.

The lightning strike ruptured a gas line, prompting firefighters to evacuate eight homes in the area. Atlanta Gas Light crews shut off the gas line shortly after 8 a.m. and residents were allowed to return to their homes.

No injuries were reported.
