Johns Creek has received a $162,000 federal grant to support community development and produce more affordable housing. The Community Development Block Grant was awarded through the Department of Housing and Urban Development.

Following public hearings earlier this year, a majority of the grant funds, almost $140,000, have been committed to renovation of the old Newtown School as a senior center. Last year, the city received $190,000 in CDBG funds. Most of that money, almost $145,000, likewise went to the senior center.
