Public hearings are scheduled for August and September on a $56 million budget proposed by Johns Creek Mayor Mike Bodker for fiscal 2017.

The budget calls for 1.81 percent in increased spending focused on six strategic goals: transportation, recreation and parks, economic development, government efficiency, public safety and a sense of community, city officials said. It maintains the millage rate at 4.614 mills, unchanged since the city’s inception.

An Aug. 15 public hearing will be followed by continued City Council discussion Aug. 29 and a second public hearing and adoption of the budget Sept. 19.

Among the budget highlights: $6 million to resurface neighborhood streets and main roads; $1.7 million to develop the Morton Road and State Bridge Road pocket parks; $464,000 for seven new public safety positions; and $400,00 to widen Kimball Bridge Road. There also is funding for new police and fire vehicles.
