The Johns Creek City Council has approved spending up to $644,422 to have Sprinturf LLC install artificial turf on as many as five baseball infields at Ocee Park.

Similar turf installations by the Johns Creek Recreation and Parks Division at two other parks resulted in a gain of more than 400 practices and games the last two playing seasons, Public Works Director Lynette Baker said in an agenda report to the council.

The Ocee Park Athletic Association, which oversees the baseball program at Ocee Park, “anticipates a replication of the successful curtailment of practice/game postponements” at Newtown and Shakerag Parks, Baker said. The work was to start in December and be completed within 60 days.
