Johns Creek named Christopher Byers, a 24-year veteran of law enforcement, as its new police chief. He replaces the previous chief, Ed Densmore, who is now city manager.

Byers joined Johns Creek Police Department in 2008 and created its Teenage Alcohol Diversion Program. He was awarded the Johns Creek Department Leadership Award in 2013.

“I am extremely humbled and excited to step into the position of police chief of the Johns Creek Police Department,” said Byers, in a statement. “I am committed to continuing the exceptional work these officers do day in and day out. Chief Densmore’s leadership and guidance over the last twelve years prepared me for this challenge and I look forward to continuing to serve the citizens of Johns Creek in my new role.”

Byers started in law enforcement in 1996. He is a graduate of Liberty University in Criminal Justice and Northwestern University’s School of Police Staff and Command.
