The Johns Creek City Council has allocated $75,000 out of fiscal year 2019 Tourism Product Development Funds for Phase 1 installation of “The Wall That Heals,” the Vietnam Memorial Wall replica acquired by the city last year.

The replica is in storage awaiting installation at Newtown Park while the Johns Creek Veterans Association leads fund-raising efforts, City Manager Warren Hutmacher said in a report to the council. The city’s goal is to complete Phase I — the initial installation — by the end of the current fiscal year.

Hutmacher said staff has developed rough cost estimates, lowering cost estimates from $400,000 to $256,750 “by negotiating a lower design fee and proposing that staff act as the general contractor for the project.”

Phase I costs are estimated at $129,100 for design services, site work, utilities, hardscape (concrete base, sidewalks and a retaining wall) and landscaping. Phase 2 will entail additional seat walls, benches, enhanced landscaping and other elements, for a total project cost of $256,750.
