The Johns Creek City Council has awarded a $3.6 million site development and construction contract for a new fire house, Station 64, intended to improve response times in the north central portion of the city.

The city’s fourth fire station will be built by D.A. Edwards & Co. Inc. at 4795 Kimball Bridge Road. Edwards was one of seven firms that responded to the city’s request for proposals, according to a staff report to the council. The project includes a $160,000 contingency, for a total project value of $3.7 million.

An evaluation committee recommended Edwards for the job, citing among other factors recently completed projects by the contractor – East Point Fire Station 4 and Forsyth County Fire Stations 6 and 8 – delivered on time and within budget.

The council authorized spending $379,000 to buy the station site in January 2018, and a house on the land was demolished and removed this fall, staff said. Weather permitting, site development for the new fire house is to begin in mid-January, with the station completed in January 2021.

Lyman Davidson Dooley Inc. is the project architect.
