Waze Carpool, a service that promises to connect drivers and riders heading to similar destinations, debuted this week in Johns Creek and Alpharetta.

There's a flat, $2 promotional fee for rides now through Aug. 5. To sign up: www.bit.ly/johnscreekandalpharetta

The goal is to address traffic congestion, “taking cars off the road and providing commuters with convenient and cost-effective options for getting to work or wherever they need to go,” said Johns Creek City Council Member Chris Coughlin.

Commuters choose their driver or rider based on a user’s personal profile and can filter for gender, co-worker or classmate, proximity to the preferred route and other factors, according to an announcement of the service. Waze Carpool drivers manage routes through the app, can schedule rides up to seven days in advance, and will receive full ride fare payments during the promotional period.
