The Johns Creek City Council has awarded a $492,000 contract to an engineering firm to prepare initial construction plans and a full trail connection plan for the new Cauley Creek Park on the Chattahoochee River.

Barge Design Solutions Inc. will develop 30% construction documents for the proposed park, handle environmental permitting and prepare 100% construction documents for a roughly 2,500-foot-long trail segment linking the existing Rogers Bridge Trail with the park.

“With minor trail re-routing, the trail segment could avoid environmental permitting and advance to construction in 2020,” Assistant City Manager Kimberly Greer said in an agenda report to the council. Construction documents could be completed in late April or early May, with the project put out to bid and a construction contract, awarded, this summer.

Barge is expected to finish environmental permitting documents in the late spring — agency reviews and the permitting process would take six to 12 months — and about six months to complete the 30% construction documents, Greer said.

Cauley Creek Park will be Johns Creek’s biggest park, with about 200 acres extending from Bell Road to the river near the Abbotts Bridge Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area.
