A Gwinnett County day care has been shut down after state investigators said the children there were in "imminent danger."
The investigation centers around the Meliora School for Early Learning in Dacula. Allegations have been made that an afterschool teacher was molesting students and making inappropriate comments.
Channel 2's Carl Willis talked to parents whose children were at the school at the time of the alleged abuse.
Parents told Willis they are stunned and searching for answers.
"That's very hurtful. Like, if I was in that position I would just ... I don't know what to say," said parent Shanti Everett.
An emergency closure was issued and parents like Warren Weems were told to take their children to the facility in Lawrenceville operated by the same owner.
"I really kind a need to know what's going on so I can figure out what to do in his situation," Weems said.
Willis went through the records and they show that the teacher in question is the son of the former director.
Findings from the Department of Early Care and Learning show that parents brought the allegations to them indicating an instance of inappropriate touching in the day care's bathroom earlier this year.
"The allegations involved here are very serious and so are being very cautious and careful to talk to as many people as we can to verify the allegation," said Reg Griffin, with DECAL.
Investigators believe the incident may not be isolated. They're working to identify any potential victims. Records show they spoke with seven children and two raised red flags.
"They said they had a case of abuse, but then I asked him was it physical or sexual, but they wouldn't go into detail," Weems said.
"I'm just really shocked because they're really good I don't have any problems out of them, so I'm really kind of shocked to hear this new information," Everett said.
Willis also spoke with the school's attorney. They've appealed and say they look forward to re-opening at the conclusion of the investigation.
