Atlanta's Interdenominational Theological Center (ITC) selected Rev. Ronald Edward Peters as the institution's eighth president. He is scheduled to begin Sept. 1.

Peters is currently the director of the Pittsburgh Theological Seminary's Metro-Urban Institute, an interdisciplinary program of religious leadership development. He earned a master in divinity from the Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary and a doctorate from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst.

The board of trustees selected Peters Thursday.

Thomas Cole has served as ITC's interim president since September 2009, shortly after the former president, Michael Battle, was confirmed as  ambassador to the African Union.

ITC is a consortium of six seminaries and an at-large fellowship. It is part of the Atlanta University Center.
