One person was seriously injured when a single-engine plane crashed Thursday morning in Carroll County.

The pilot, identified as George Pederson, 47, of Carrollton, was the only person on the Beech B-19, which went down on Consolation Church Road near Jones Mill Road, the Carroll County Sheriff's Office said. There is an airstrip in the area, but the plane missed it, crashing near a cemetery.

The man sustained serious burns and was flown to Grady Memorial Hospital for treatment.

The airplane was destroyed in the crash, making it difficult initially to determine who owned it, according to Arlene Salac, spokeswoman for the Federal Aviation Administration.

Investigators were trying to determine the cause of the crash Thursday afternoon.
