An infant died following a multi-vehicle crash on I-285 in Dunwoody Monday morning.

Dunwoody police said two vehicles collided on westbound I-285 near Chamblee Dunwoody Road at 5:05 a.m. Then two more crashes occurred as a result of the first, police said.

One of those secondary crashes involved a Gwinnett County ambulance transporting an infant. When the ambulance became undrivable, the DeKalb County Fire Department responded and transported the infant to a hospital. The infant passed away at the hospital from causes not likely related to the crash, police said.

Three other people – all adults – were transported to area hospitals following the crashes. They appeared to have non-life-threatening injuries.

Police said one driver has been charged with driving with no license and failure to maintain lane. No other charges have been made at this time.

In 2022, Georgia Power projected its winter peak electricity demand would grow by about 400 megawatts by 2031. Since then, Georgia has experienced a boom of data centers, which require a large load of electricty to run, and Georgia Power's recent forecast shows peak demand growing by 20 times the 400-megawatt estimate from just three years ago.
