So you can't sing, but think you can draw or paint? If so, you may still have a shot at participating in "How Sweet the Sound."

The Verizon competition, which goes city-to-city to select the best church choir, is looking for artists to create murals that best represent their cities and the tenets of the "How Sweet the Sound" competition.

According to the Verizon Web site, murals should reflect the values of the communities where they are posted, "as well as uplift and provide a lasting visual reminder of Verizon's ongoing commitment to the communities it serves."

Artists should present designs that are based on three cornerstones of African-American life: music, community and church. Each mural will be displayed in the community and unveiled in conjunction with the regional competition in each market. There will also be a traveling art exhibit through each of the 14 markets and on postcards and posters.

The deadline for entries in June 27. For more information, go to: www.howsweetthesound.com

The event comes to Atlanta in October. The mural winners will be announced this summer.
