The DeKalb County Police Department handles thousands of car theft cases each year, with 2016 being a year of a slight increase.

By mid-December, the department had worked 3,740 auto theft cases, 43 more than 2015, according to statistics released to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

In a recent interview, Cedric Alexander, DeKalb’s public safety director, said it’s hard to put a finger on why such stats shift.
