Original story, published Feb. 26, 2020: DeKalb County will provide residents a chance to safely dispose of their hazardous household items next month.

The county’s sanitation division will host a hazardous waste recycling event from 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday, March 21. It will be held at 3720 Leroy Scott Drive in Decatur.

Hazardous materials that will be accepted include aerosols, batteries, adhesives, flammables, lawn care products, fluorescent light bulbs, photo chemicals and paints, officials said. Paint will be limited to 10 gallons per vehicle.

Agricultural waste, ammunition, radioactive materials, pharmaceuticals and biohazardous and biomedical waste will not be accepted.

Participation is free but open only to DeKalb County residents. Proof of residency may be requested, officials said.
