Some tips to find a good personal care home:

1. Check the state website to determine whether the home has a license.

2. Visit the place and tour the entire home.

3. Talk to residents there about their experience in the home.

4. Be wary of any operator who asks to take control of your finances, such as a checking account, Social Security checks or pensions.

5. Make sure the services provided match your needs.

6. Ask about credentials, training and background checks on staff.

7. Ask to see a copy of their last inspection report.

To report a facility you suspect is an illegal personal care home, visit the DHR website.

Or call the state Healthcare Facility Regulation Division Complaint Intake Unit at 404-657-5726 or 404-657-5728.
