A gas leak has caused the evacuation of 12 homes and one business along Buford Highway.

At least 12 homes and one business were evacuated for an hour Tuesday due to a gas leak on Buford Highway in Norcross.

Construction workers hit a gas line between Britt Avenue and S. Cemetery Street in Norcross on the 5000 block of Buford Highway shortly before 11:30 a.m. Tuesday. Buford Highway has been closed at S. Peachtree Street in Norcross, according to Gwinnett County Fire and Emergency Services.

Atlanta Gas and Light resolved the leak shortly before 12:30 p.m. Tuesday. The business was allowed to re-open and the residents were allowed back inside their homes after the gas line was secured, the fire department said.
