Gwinnett Commissioners approved a special use permit March 24 to allow for a family personal care home on 1.98 acres at 1404 Rock Springs Road in Buford. The existing single-family home would be used to care for elderly residents needing assistance with daily activities.

The permit was approved provided the occupant is a state-licensed family personal care provider, with a maximum of eight elderly residents. Additional conditions include the prohibition of exterior signage and maintenance of an existing 20-foot wide buffer along exterior property lines. Any new buildings or building renovations must be of a traditional residential style, compatible with the homes in the surrounding area.
