Holly Springs City Council members and the public this week got their first look at a revised master plan aimed at developing a true downtown area.

The plan by Bleakly Advisory Group calls for using city-owned parcels to connect city hall to Bracket Plaza, developing a walkable city center with residential, retail and office space anchored by city hall and a public green area.

The study suggests a new downtown could support 35-40 new housing units and up to 280 apartments and senior living spots. It also suggests up to 25,000 square feet of commercial space downtown targeting locally-owned businesses and restaurants, given that large-scale shopping areas already exist within two miles of the city center.

City Manager Rob Logan said the next step in the process is for Bleakly to incorporate a number of tweaks suggested by council members at this week’s meeting.
