Volunteers marked the graves of military veterans in Georgia and across the nation with holiday wreaths Saturday as part of the annual Wreaths Across America observance.

An estimated 2 million volunteers had been expected to place wreaths in more than 1,600 participating cemeteries, including the Georgia National Cemetery in Canton and the Marietta National Cemetery near downtown Marietta.

The theme for this year's program was "Everybody plays a part," chosen by the national nonprofit Wreaths Across America organization based in Maine. The web address is www.wreathsacrossamerica.org.

More than 20 Georgia cemeteries were scheduled to take part, from Georgia Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Glennville, near the southeastern coast, to West Hill Cemetery in Dalton, near the Tennessee State line.
