The Hiram Police Department is accepting applications for its Citizens Police Academy by 5 p.m. March 25.

This academy will run from 6-9 p.m. every Thursday on April 2 to June 11 for 12 meetings in total - with one Saturday session from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. - at the Hiram Police Department, 217 Main St.

Citizens will be provided with an opportunity to take an in-depth look at their local law enforcement agency and its officers.

Topics covered will include Criminal Investigations, Traffic Enforcement, Crime Scene Investigations, the Chaplain and Explorer programs, a tour of the 911 Center and Jail, a Driving Simulator, a Shooting Simulator, Firearms Courses, Firearms Safety and Georgia Carry Laws, Use of Force and Self-Defense Laws and an annual Law Enforcement Honor Guard Memorial.

The Citizens Police Academy is open to Hiram residents and business or property owners, pending a background check and approval.

Hiram residents or business/property owners must be U.S. citizens and at least 18 years of age who have passed the background/criminal history check and submitted a complete and approved application.

Available seats for eligible applicants are reserved on a first-come, first-served basis.

Applications are available in person at the Hiram Police Department or online.
