Two Cobb County high schools have been named "Georgia Schools of Excellence" this year by the state Department of Education.

Hillgrove and Sprayberry high schools earned the honor because of gains in reading and math scores on the Georgia High School Graduation Test over the past three years, according to the Cobb school system.

Two winning schools are picked from each congressional district in Georgia, with 26 winning this year. Cobb schools have won 53 of the awards since 1984 when the program started. Information: www.cobbk12.org/aboutccsd/awards.
