Bring your garbage, yard trimmings and old, bulky furniture. Broken appliances? They’re welcome too.

DeKalb County is giving residents the chance to get rid of just about anything directly at the county landfill on Saturday, Oct. 19, during its third annual “Landfill Amnesty Day,” according to a statement from DeKalb’s sanitation division.

It will be free for residents to dispose of things including: Bagged garbage, yard trimmings, tree parts, furniture, small and large appliances, other bulky items, tires, construction and demolition materials, carpet and fencing.

The amnesty day will take place between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. at the Seminole Road Landfill, located at 4203 Clevemont Road in Ellenwood.

Participation is restricted to DeKalb County residents, and not businesses. You can only bring up to 10 tires at once. And you’re not allowed to bring hazardous materials to the landfill.

But don’t fret if you have some areosols or flammables you need you’d like to — responsibly — get rid of. The county is also holding a hazardous waste recycling event on Saturday, Oct. 12, from 8 a.m. to noon.

It will be held at 3720 Leroy Scott Dr. in Decatur. Residents can bring materials including: Aerosols, batteries, adhesives, flammables, lawn care products, fluorescent light bulbs, photo chemicals, paint, paint-related products and artist supplies. No more than 10 gallons of paint per person.
