Henry students win bus safety poster contest; one going to national competition

Henry County students were repeat winners in recent local and state school bus safety poster contests.

Amaya Williamson of Dutchtown Elementary School won the Henry County poster contest for Division 1 while Santiago Pena-Garcia of Stockbridge Elementary won in Division 2. Aumkar Patel of Union Grove Middle School was the Henry contest winner for Division 3.

Pena-Garcia also won first place at the state level and will compete in the national poster contest while Patel came in second at the state level, the district said. Patel has won in the Henry County contest four times and placed third in the state competition in 2016. He won the state and national competitions in 2017.

Santiago Pena-Garcia of Stockbridge Elementary was the Division 2 winner of Henry County Schools bus safety poster contest.

The poster contest is part of National School Bus Safety Week, which is designed to remind the public about the importance of using caution around school buses.

More than 100 Henry students submitted entries in the contest, whose theme was “Red Lights Mean Stop!” Each poster had to incorporate the slogan into its design.
