Henry County officials set Feb. 12 as the start for its transit department’s first fixed route, a 12-mile course through the northern half of the county with six designated stops.

The initiative is a pilot program for the county to offer citizens enhanced transportation and mobility services. The bus will stop at various shopping venues as well as the Fairview Corners medical campus, the Fairview Library and the Fairview Recreation Center. County commissioners said recently the move will be especially beneficial to the area’s senior citizens. The service is currently free of charge but a fare will be set at a later date.

Initial operating hours are 9 a.m.-5 p.m. weekdays. Earlier this year, commissioners approved the purchase of a 20-passenger StarTrans Senator II Shuttle bus equipped with a wheelchair lift.
