Henry Schools Superintendent Davis sticking around after contract extension

Henry County Schools has extended Superintendent Mary Elizabeth Davis' contract for three years.

Henry County Schools has extended Superintendent Mary Elizabeth Davis' contract for three years.

Henry Board of Education members unanimously agreed to renew the contract for Superintendent Mary Elizabeth Davis.

Davis, who was named the district’s top leader in 2017, will stay for three additional years after helping the school system post some of its best test results ever from the 2018-2019 school year.

"What Dr. Davis has been able to do since she has been in Henry County is remarkable," Board Chairman Josh Hinton said in a release after Monday's announcement.

“The No. 1 job of any board is to hire the superintendent, and I can fully tell anybody, with 100 percent confidence, that we have the best person in the seat,” he said. “And not only the best person in the seat, I truly believe we have the best superintendent in the entire state of Georgia.”

The district said under Davis' watch, scores for the 2018-19 College and Career Ready Performance Index increased 11 points year over year. The district also saw its overall performance move from 15th place to 6th place among 18 school districts, including those in the metro Atlanta and Griffin regions.

Davis said she was humbled by the contract extension and credited part of the district’s performance to the board’s leadership.

"It is an honor to be a part of an exceptional school system and to work for a board of education with a unified direction, and we continue to want to make you and this community proud to call Henry County Schools the best in the state," she said.
