The Henry County Board of Commissioners voted June 19 to accept a $82,534 grant from the state’s Criminal Justice Coordinating Council on behalf of the county’s Veterans Treatment Court.

A required match of $9,170 will be covered by Drug Abuse Treatment and Education (DATE) funds. The court’s purpose is to reduce jail time and improve treatment outcomes for participants with service-related substance additions and mental illness in higher-risk categories, saving the county in court and jail costs as well as community support costs while increasing taxable income through employment requirements for participants.

The funds will be used for salaries, contract services, drug screens, assessments and travel related to training.
