The Henry County Board of Education voted at its May 11 regular business meeting to approve a resolution proclaiming May 22 as Henry County Schools Class of 2020 Day. That is the date originally scheduled to be graduation day for more than 3,000 seniors at the county’s ten high schools, before all school buildings were closed in March due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Actual graduation ceremonies have been rescheduled for late June, or possibly late July if health officials recommend further delay. Board members stated that they wanted to create “a unique way to ensure that this special senior class is celebrated by everyone in the county,” according to a statement from the district. A resolution to recognize the Class of 2020 was unanimously adopted with language noting the special circumstances of this year that have greatly affected the current senior class.

The district will also host a virtual celebration on this date.
