The Henry County Board of Commissioners voted Jan. 3 to approve the purchase of 180 cellular smartphones for the Police Department’s Uniform Patrol Division as well as members of Code Enforcement and Animal Control.

The phones and their accessories amount to an initial cost of $157,313.40 along with other costs for ongoing service. Each phone will be equipped with a digital camera and body camera with access to cloud storage via an app, according to a staff report.

Officers will have access to a phone, camera, audio/video recorder, GPS tracking device, 24-hour mobile access to department email and text messaging.
