The Henry County Zoning Advisory Board voted at its March 28 meeting to approve a variance request for a 24-acre site in the Greenwood Industrial Park to allow an increase in the 75-foot height limit on a warehouse building.

The owners, United States Cold Storage, want to take one section of the existing building and add a 130-foot-high fully automated tower, which would be allowed already under new development but not with an existing building. The remainder of the structure would be unchanged. Officials said they have already consulted with the Henry County Fire Department, which had no objections. The company expects to add about 140 jobs over the next five years with its proposed expansion.

The addition is expected to take 16 months to complete.
