The Henry County Board of Commissioners voted at its Sept. 3 regular meeting to issue an official objection to a proposed annexation into the city of McDonough.

The tract in question consists of 161 acres east of Hwy. 20 and along the north side of Turner Church Road. It is zoned residential-agricultural and the Future Land Use Map designates it for low-density residential development, but the plan submitted to the city calls for 399 lots, the smallest of which would be 4,800 square feet, according to county staff.

That kind of change in land use gives the county the legal grounds necessary for a proper objection, the county attorney told the commissioners.
