The Henry County Board of Commissioners adopted a $134,672,557 budget for fiscal year 2015-2016 at a May 27 called meeting and public hearing.

The new budget calls for $1.7 million in funding for new employees, including the hiring of fire professionals to staff a new fire station opening this year, which was approved under the SPLOST IV initiative by voters in November of 2013.

The budget also calls for $700,000 to build and operate an employee health clinic, which is expected to save both employees and taxpayers’ money over the long term, and the new budget allocates an additional $330,000 to assist the funding needs of the Henry County Library System.

Also included in this year’s budget is $1,710,532 to cover the increase to employee health insurance premiums, and Commissioners elected to include $2.2 million to provide a 3-percent salary increase for County employees, which will take effect at the start of the new fiscal year beginning July 1.
