The Henry County Board of Commissioners voted at a July 29 special called meeting to approve a referendum that, if approved by voters in November, would continue the county’s special-purpose local-option sales tax.
The board also approved a project list which designates 67 percent of the revenue for transportation projects. Other high priorities on the list include various public safety upgrades and construction of an aquatic center. Because an intergovernmental agreement with the county’s four cities could not be reached, an alternative arrangement provided for by state law will be implemented and the SPLOST will be for five years instead of six.
