The Henry County Board of Commissioners voted Feb. 19 approve a capital project improvement plan list adding up to nearly $180 million.

The biggest items are a proposed convention center/arena at $90 million and courthouse upgrades totaling $60 million. The list includes $10 million for an amphitheater, $5 million for a new jail pod, just over $7 million for maintenance and repair on dozens of buildings, $4.4 million for vehicle replacement and more than $3 million for the coroner’s building. Funding for these items has not been determined, and the board in its motion directed the county and its consultant to issue a request for proposals in that regard.

Some of these items could appear on the official project list for a new SPLOST referendum that is expected to take place in the fall of this year.
