The Henry County Board of Commissioners did not pass the county millage at the scheduled July 31 meeting, as the first motion died for lack of a second and the subsequent motion resulted in a 3-3 vote.

A called meeting has been scheduled for 9 a.m. Monday, Aug. 13 to try again.

There was considerable discussion of a couple of budgetary matters that led to no votes by Gary Barham, Dee Clemmons and Bruce Holmes. The proposed millage rate is 12.733, which is the exact same rate as was adopted last year, but the coming year will bring in $6 million more in revenue because of the increase in the tax digest. The budget for the 2019 fiscal year was adopted in May.

The millage rate hearings and subsequent adoption are separate from the budget but are needed to authorize collections.
