Harris Street in downtown Atlanta will be renamed "John Portman Boulevard at Historic Harris Street" on Wednesday, capping a controversial bid to rename the street in honor of a developer who helped reshape Atlanta's skyline. A dedication is scheduled for 9 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 2 at the corner of Spring Street opposite AmericasMart.

Portman, a native Atlantan, helped build Peachtree Center in Atlanta's central business district and also developed AmericasMart. He is the subject of a new documentary called "John Portman: A Life of Building."
