The Hapeville Police Department has announced the start of a new program, Residents Assisting Police, a voluntary registration of surveillance cameras on private property. Hapeville residents and/or business owners with private surveillance can register.

The voluntary registration advises police of residents and business owners who are willing to share footage of incidents that could be helpful in solving crimes. Officers and detectives would be able to contact the owners to request the footage.

Hapeville police said the surveillance camera information will be kept in a secure database.
