The location for municipal voting in Hampton will not change, as a recommendation from Henry County election officials was voted down July 9 by the City Council.

The recommendation was to no longer have city elections at Fortson Library but to instead use the two existing county polling places, Berea Christian Church and Calvary Baptist Church. County officials said there would be a reduction in voter confusion if voters cast their ballots at the same location for city and county elections. Fortson Library is still an early voting site for county, state and federal elections.

A motion to keep the status quo and not make the change was made by Ann Tarpley, with Willie Turner and Errol Mitchell voting in favor. Mayor Steve Hutchison broke the tie to approve the motion.
