A Hall County Sheriff’s Office jailer accused of hitting a handcuffed inmate has been suspended pending an investigation.

David Pirkle was suspended with pay Wednesday for the alleged altercation inside the jail Sunday.

The GBI has been asked to conduct an independent investigation, Hall sheriff’s spokesman Sgt. Stephen Wilbanks said in a Thursday news release. Hall’s internal affairs division also is investigating.

No additional information will be released until the end of the investigation, Wilbanks said.
