A 24-year-old Gainesville woman died Tuesday evening in a two-car crash in Forsyth County, a sheriff’s spokesman said.

Alicia Velazquez was pronounced dead at Northside Hospital Forsyth, Deputy Doug Rainwater said in a news release.

The incident happened on Ga. 9 at Mountain Road about 6:12 p.m., Rainwater said.

According to the investigation, a 2004 Ford F-150 driven by Oscar Garcia of Cumming was traveling south approaching Mountain Road. A Volkswagen Passat, which was driven by Josue Gomez of Sugar Hill, was traveling north, Rainwater said. Velazquez was a passenger in that car.

The Volkswagen failed to yield, turned left toward Mountain Road and into the path of the Ford, according to Rainwater.

Gomez and Garcia were taken to WellStar North Fulton Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The investigation is ongoing.
