Hall County residents may want to make sure their pets are vaccinated after a dog encountered a rabid raccoon.

The encounter happened near Joe Chandler Road in east Hall County, according to a press release. The raccoon was taken to the Georgia Public Health Lab-Virology Section in Decatur.

This is the seventh confirmed case in the county this year.

Authorities are posting alert signs in the area where the raccoon was found, according to the release.

Residents are encouraged to call Hall County Animal Services at 770-531-6830 if they see an animal acting abnormally. Hall County Dispatch is available at 770-536-8812 during non-working hours.

Pet owners can get their animals vaccinated at the Hall County Animal Shelter for $10 Tuesday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
