8 Gwinnett students earn national art and writing awards

Eight Gwinnett County students recently earned medals at the National Scholastic Art and Writing Awards.

All 10 submissions by the students -- which represented three different schools -- won medals, including three golds. Sidney Oh, a student at the Gwinnett School of Mathematics, Science and Technology won a total of three medals herself.

The other students were Brookwood High School's Liana Nowak, Sarah Park and Raleigh Wunderlich, as well as North Gwinnett High School's Lesley Chang, Kinley Fuqua, Ian Peng and Austin Pham. Their awards came after being selected from a pool of 300,000 submissions on the state level.

According to a news release from Gwinnett County Public Schools:

"Altogether, 192 GCPS high school students were honored in the state Scholastic competition, earning 98 Gold Keys and 136 Silver Keys. Another 164 submissions won 'Honorable Mention' recognition at the state level. Students from Brookwood High School, Dacula High School, Grayson High School, Grayson High School Technical Education Program, GSMST, Lanier High School, Mill Creek High School, Norcross High School, North Gwinnett High School, Parkview High School, Peachtree Ridge High School, and Phoenix High School earned recognition at the state level."
