The redevelopment of the Green Corners Shopping Center near Norcross has started with the demolition of the aging plaza.

Wal-Mart plans to build a 157,000-square-foot Supercenter on the site at Jimmy Carter Boulevard and Rockbridge Road. The store is slated to open in the summer of 2013 and will feature groceries, a garden center and retail space.

The shopping once boasted a thriving Kmart and movie theater but in recent years become an eyesore, now nearly empty and plagued by crime.
