A soft lockdown at two Gwinnettt County schools was lifted briefly after it began Wednesday afternoon.

Gwinnett County Public Schools officials announced the lockdown at Brookwood High School and Brookwood Elementary School around 2 p.m., citing police activity in the area.

A soft lockdown means all exterior doors at a school are locked and access in and out of the building is restricted. Just a few minutes after the lockdown was announced, the school system wrote on Twitter that it was over.

Gwinnett County police spokeswoman Cpl. Michele Pihera said a suspect fled a traffic stop at Ronald Reagan Parkway and Webb Gin House Road and officers were "actively looking for him."

The police department then identified the suspect through its Twitter account.
