Gwinnett County will save about $100,000 a year under a vehicle maintenance agreement approved by the Board of Commissioners Tuesday.

The board approved an agreement with General Motors that will allow county mechanics to be trained to perform warranty work on Gwinnett’s GM vehicles. That means Gwinnett won’t have to send the vehicles to dealerships for repairs.

GM will provide the training at no cost and will reimburse the county for warrant work at a rate of $55.82 per hour. County officials estimate they’ll save $100,000 annually on transportation costs and vehicle downtime.
