A restaurant in the heart of downtown Duluth was severely damaged by a fire Monday night, Gwinnett County Fire and Emergency Services said.

Main Street Mediterranean Cafe is now closed until it has repaired the damage caused by the nighttime fire. Crews responded to the restaurant at 9:07 p.m. Monday, finding an active blaze inside. The fire did not spread to neighboring buildings, but three businesses adjacent to the cafe suffered smoke damage, according to Capt. Tommy Rutledge, a spokesman for the fire department.
